Well, where do we start with this one?! The biggest and best side in Germany, Bayern Munich, were absolutely thrashed 5-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon. The biggest – and formerly best – side in England, Manchester United, were obliterated 3-0 at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League, and it would have been worse but for VAR saving them from the embarrassment of a late goal.
There are big differences between Bayern and United right now, though. United have lost 7 out of 16 Premier League games and have a minus goal difference. They are 10 points behind leaders Liverpool after only 16 games. United are also rock bottom of their Champions League group having been humbled by both Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen. The season has been nothing short of a disaster thus far. At the time of writing, Erik ten Hag is still the manager, but that could well have changed by the time kicks off! Surely an early exit from the Champions League will seal his fate if not.
Bayern on the other hand, are second in the Bundesliga, 3 points behind leaders Leverkusen. They have an excellent record this season – barring Saturday’s shock result – and it is only Leverkusen’s ridiculous start (P 13 W 11 D 2 L o) that is keeping them off the top. Bayern are also already through to the knockout stage of the Champions League as group winners.
United MUST win on Tuesday, and hope Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw. Any other sequence of events and United are out, because both Copenhagen and Galatasaray have 5 points and United only have 4.
Man Utd 31/20 (Coral)
Draw 6/4 (Bet365)
Bayern Munich 31/20 (Ladbrokes)
Man Utd are a real Jekyll and Hyde team this season. You just don’t know what to expect from them. Usually, though, you would see Bayern Munich as easy winners here. If it were not for the circumstances surrounding this game, we would confidently predict Bayern to be the winners.
But let’s consider a few things; United need to win to qualify, Bayern may rest players as they are already through, United fans will expect a backlash after Saturday’s debacle. On the other hand, Bayern fans will also expect their team to restore some pride after their hammering, Harry Kane will always have a point to prove in Champions League games against English teams, United have been in disarray all season, and the most important factor for us: Bayern are just a much better team.
Because United need to win to qualify, because Bayern are already through and because Bayern got mullered on Saturday, Bayern’s odds are false. We think they will put out a strong team who will want to prove a point, and those odds of 31/20 are an absolute steal. Bayern to win.
Harry Kane 4/1
Rasmus Hojlund 11/2
Marcus Rashford 6/1
Anthony Martial 13/2
Leroy Sane 15/2
Bruno Fernandes 15/2
Alejandro Garnacho 7/1
Serge Gnabry 9/1
Once again we go with BetFred for the double and treble odds if the first goalscorer gets two or three goals, and we just can’t get away from Harry Kane again. He’s one of the top 3 strikers on the planet and he will be out to prove a point again.
Harry Kane 11/10 (Bet365)
Rasmus Hojlund 7/4 (Coral)
Marcus Rashford 11/5 (Ladbrokes)
Leroy Sane 5/2 (Coral)
There is a small chance Bayern may rest Harry Kane. But we don’t think so. Not when it’s his first chance to play a European game on English soil for his new club. Not when he could have signed for United. Not when his team were hammered 5-1 on Saturday. Bayern have a point to prove; Harry Kane has a point to prove. We feel this is an absolute lump job, the bet of the night bar none. We will be all over Harry Kane to score at anytime, we are confident.
2-1 9/1 (Bet365)
Just a little extra one here. We think Bayern Munich will win, but we also think Man Utd will score. You could potentially do that bet, but we think for better odds the 2-1 correct scoreline is a better bet at 9/1.
United will once again be without Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Tyrell Malacia and Amad Diallo. Christian Eriksen has been out for a month but could possibly be back for this game.
Bayern have Matthijs de Ligt, Jamal Musiala and Bouna Sarr missing.
Harry Kane to score anytime (5 points) 11/10 (Bet365)
Bayern Munich to win (3 points) 31/20 (Ladbrokes)
Harry Kane to score first (2 points) 4/1 (BetFred)
Bayern Munich to win 2-1 (2 points) 9/1 (Bet365)
