By the time this game is played on Sunday, Liverpool will almost certainly be off the top of the table as Manchester City host Southampton the day before.
Liverpool have had an excellent start to life under Arne Slot, winning 11 of their 12 games in all competitions, the only blip being the shock 0-1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. You could argue that was on the back of the international break, however, and that Liverpool absolutely dominated the game and on another day could have had 3 or 4 goals.
Arsenal – our tips to win the title before a ball was kicked – have had a decent start to the season, and sit in third place, 3 points behind City and 4 points behind Liverpool. How much better that would have looked, though, had ten man Arsenal managed to hold on and win at the Etihad after leading 2-1 (the game eventually ended 2-2 after a 98th minute John Stones equaliser), not to mention the psychological effect it would have had on both teams.
Both teams come into this game having won 1-0 in their midweek Champions League games; Arsenal at home to Shakhtar Donetsk, while Liverpool won at RB Leipzig.
Match Betting Odds
(Please note all odds are correct at time of publishing)
Arsenal 6/4 (BetFred)
Draw 2/1 (Bet365)
Liverpool 12/5 (Coral)
This really is a tough one to judge as you could see every outcome happening, very easily. Arsenal have an unbeaten home record while Liverpool have a 100% home record, so something has to give. If we were forced to pick a team to win, it would be Liverpool by the slimmest of margins, purely down to Arsenal’s injury problems. But we can see this being a draw, both sides desperate to not lose, Arsenal especially not wanting to fall more points behind their two title rivals. While Liverpool would see a point at the Etihad as a very good result and a continuation of their excellent start to the season.

As you can see, when it comes to the correct score markets, Bet365 absolutely lead the way for value.
We think this will be a tight, cagey affair and not the free flowing all out attack we often see from both teams. 1-1 is also the score in football which happens more often than any other, and that is the exact score we can see happening on Sunday.

As always when we do a first goalscorer bet, we are bringing you the odds just from BetFred. The reason for this, is their fantastic “Double Delight and Hat-trick Heaven” offer: “If your pre-match First Goalscorer bet scores 1st and then scores a 2nd, we’ll DOUBLE the odds. If they score a third we’ll TREBLE them.”
This always makes doing a first goalscorer bet with BetFred worthwhile, even though Bet365 usually offer slightly better odds (but not always, for example, Trossard and Jesus are both higher odds at BetFred for this game).
Mo Salah is always a strong starting point for first goalscorer, but we also fancy small bets on a few of the defenders as set pieces could be vital here. Arsenal have been especially strong from them.
Team News
Martin Odegaard (ankle) and William Saliba (suspended) definitely miss out of for Arsenal, while Bukayo Saka is a major doubt. Riccardo Calfiori and Jurrien Timber could both miss out too.
For Liverpool, Federico Chiesa is still out, along with Harvey Elliot, Conor Bradley and potentially Diogo Jota.
