This has been a golden age of heavyweight boxing, but it might be close to coming to an end.
Tyson Fury looks past his best, and despite once again coming out of retirement, he surely hasn’t got long left in the business. Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Dillian Whyte all look shot to pieces.
Joe Joyce and Zhilei Zhang never quite lived up to their potential. But when you are still at the “potential” stage in your late thirties, that is always likely to happen.
So, of the “Old Guard” it seems we only have Oleksandr Usyk, at 38 years old, left, carrying the torch. Still world champion, still unbeaten, still unified champion.
But is all that about to change? Will Daniel Dubois be the man to finally dethrone the Ukrainian, finally inflict his first defeat upon him? Maybe, just maybe. He was close last time.
Dubois is the IBF world champion himself, of course, having totally destroyed Joshua when they met in September 2024. That fight was Dubois’ third win in a row since his first encounter with Usyk, Usyk stopping him in the ninth round. The other two wins were both impressive TKO wins against Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic.
Usyk has had two fights since dispatching of Dubois, both points wins against Tyson Fury, who fancies yet another trilogy.
Usyk has the chance to become the undisputed heavyweight champion for the second time, while Dubois can be the first British undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis.

Is there any value in Usyk? It all depends on how much spare cash you have and how convinced you are that he will win. Lots of people would never back an odds on shot, but some very successful, big punters lap up short priced favourites. The key is getting value, regardless of the odds. So, is 4/11 value?
Well, on one hand, Dubois has a lot of power. He really hurt Usyk in the first fight. Lots of people saw it as a low blow; we personally didn’t. He’s also the young, upcoming fighter. At some point older fighters must retire, or they lose. Old Father Time waits for no man.
On the other hand, though, Usyk is undefeated. He is one of the greatest of all time, has the experience, and the key thing in rematches, is that the boxer who won the first fight usually wins the second one. In professional boxing, the fighter who won the first match typically wins the rematch about 70-80% of the time, according to ESPN.
So, revenge or repeat? We believe it will be repeat.
Method of Victory
Oleksandr Usyk by KO TKO or Disqualification 6/5 (Bet365)
Oleksandr Usyk by Decision or Technical Decision 2/1 (Coral)
Daniel Dubois by KO TKO or Disqualification 15/1 (Bet365)
Daniel Dubois by Decision or Technical Decision 11/1 (Ladbrokes)
Draw 18/1 (Ladbrokes)
Whilst we do see a point in backing any odds on selection if you think it’s going to win, especially sticking them in doubles, trebles and accas, we do prefer to find some good value in bets if we can. This is why we like this market.
Last time out, Usyk stopped Dubois. For that to happen again, you can get 6/5 with Bet365. But we don’t see that this time. Usyk doesn’t have insane power, even though he is a good finisher. We feel he will get the win again, but this time on points, and the 2/1 that Coral are offering looks very decent.

Bet365 do – as usual – pretty much have the monopoly on best odds. But make sure you shop around if you have lots of different betting accounts, as there are some rounds where other bookies have better odds, as above.
As already stated, we can see this one going the distance. But there’s nothing wrong with having a couple of little side bets on a stoppage in a certain round, too. So, we are going to have a couple of token side bets on either fighter getting the stoppage in Round 10, a round after Usyk did it last time.
If the fight does end in a stoppage, we do feel it will be within those last four rounds once again.
