Liverpool vs Man Utd Betting Preview & Tips
18th October 2025
Champions Liverpool started their Premier League title defence with five wins in a row against Bournemouth, Newcastle, Arsenal, Burnley and Everton, with late winners in several games. Everything seemed rosy, but did those late winners paper over some cracks? Perhaps so, because the next two games before the international break were defeats against Crystal Palace and Chelsea, with a loss against Galatasaray in the Champions League sandwiched between them.
Manchester United have continued in pretty much the same vein as last season. They sit in 10th place with 3 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats from their opening 7 games, and were knocked out of the League Cup on penalties by Grimsby Town of League Two, after being lucky to even make it that far in the game.
This one is always a feisty game between two great rivals. Which side can discover their form to take bragging rights in the “Northwest Derby”?
Match Betting Odds

Part of the problem for Liverpool this season, is Mo Salah doesn’t look the same player as he was last season, Florian Wirtz looks a shadow of the player he was at Bayer Leverkusen, and Ibrahima Konate looks like he has forgotten how to play football. There are also a host of other signings still settling in and other players still not performing to the peak of their powers. All that said, and all the talk in the media and on social media of a crisis at Anfield, they are still second in the league, only a point behind leaders, Arsenal. And last season they had 14 points from the first 7 games, this season they have 15 points from the opening 7 fixture. If it is a crisis, it’s a crisis most clubs would love to be in.
Manchester United, on the other hand, seem to have been a club in crisis ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. They have had some success, under Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal, but by and large it has just been a downward spiral for the club, culminating in a 15th place finish last season, despite getting to the Europa League Final. That is as bad as it has been in the Premier League for United, with 7th their lowest ever finish in the Premier League era previously, under David Moyes.
We can only see one winner here. Liverpool are champions and have numerous world class players. They haven’t just become poor overnight. Whereas United have wasted money on overrated players every season for years now. We see nothing in that side that can trouble Liverpool and we are confidently predicting a Liverpool win.
Correct Score Market (Selected) (All Bet365; has the best odds on this market for all scores)
Liverpool 1-0 11/1
Liverpool 2-0 10/1
Liverpool 2-1 17/2
Liverpool 3-0 14/1
Liverpool 3-1 12/1
Draw 0-0 20/1
Draw 1-1 17/2
Draw 2-2 14/1
Man Utd 1-0 20/1
Man Utd 2-0 33/1
Man Utd 2-1 16/1
Whilst we think Liverpool will win, their defence has looked suspect a lot this season. Konate as mentioned above, has been poor, and their fullbacks are extremely attacking which can leave them vulnerable. United are capable of scoring goals, so we think a 2-1 or a 3-1 win to Liverpool looks most likely here.
Anytime Goalscorer (Selected)
Alexander Isak 21/20 (Coral)
Hugo Ekitike 11/10 (BetFred)
Mo Salah 6/5 (Ladbrokes)
Cody Gakpo 21/10 (Coral)
Benjamin Sesko 13/5 (Ladbrokes)
Bryan Mbeumo 16/5 (Coral)
Bruno Fernandes 19/5 (Ladbrokes)
We are avoiding Mo Salah due to his form at the minute, but if Isak plays we can see him scoring. You can obviously do him first or last goalscorer with bigger odds, but the safe option is anytime at 21/20 with Coral.
Liverpool To Win And BTTS
7/4 (Bet365)
As we stated above, we do see Liverpool winning, but we can also see United scoring so this is the perfect market for us, to try to maximise winnings on the Liverpool win.
To get the best of this bet you need to go on Bet365 and do a Bet Builder. There is a market “Result/Both Teams To Score” but you need to avoid that market and place the bet as a Bet Builder. This is important because if Liverpool go two goals ahead at any point of the game, that part of the bet is a winner, and you only need United to score then. The game could up 6-2 to United, but as long as Liverpool go two goals ahead first, then the bet will still win IF you do it as a Bet Builder.
If you do it on the “Result/Both Teams To Score” market, the “two goals ahead” rule does not apply.
